10/24/11 - Day One

The beginning of this project was on the 24th of October, and we began by grouping up.  We are team two, row two for this project.  Our group members are Austin Newnam, Kris Fabris, Ron Rowles, Donald Baldwin, and myself, Adam Bodenhamer.  While in this meeting, we hashed out what we thought the network topology should look like for our network.  We worked out a alternating system which allowed for us to work both on a client and a server at the same time.

A layout of our network topology.  Notice the alternating formation so that working from a server, you can check on your progress via the client next to the server.  Click to view original size.

Once we had this topology, we took it and our server leaders to the meeting.  The leaders for each server / clients are below.

Untangle:  Austin Newnam
Zimbra:  Kris Fabris
Lamp:  Donald Baldwin
Trix:  Adam Bodenhamer
Clients:  Ron Rowles

Once we discussed our topology with the group, we adapted it as a class and went back to set up.  The Untangle leaders met and began to document the setup of a server.  The rest of the team ran Ethernet cables under the floor to the Lamp Box, Trix Box, and a client in order to manage them better. We attached our switch to the outside of the desk with the input lights facing up for easy access.  We numbered our computers left to right from number one through seven, and used the same scheme to plug the Ethernet cables into the desktops.   Once everything was set up, we called it a day.
